Although fashion industry is booming with new and talented ready-to-wear designers, some parts of the wardrobe are often not cared about, or simply missed. And this can be surely said about gloves – except those feather embellished, couture ones you’ve seen during the last Marc Jacobs’ fashion show, when was the last time you were really excited with gloves? Well, Aristide is the answer, because this time, I am obsessed with this significant, seasonless accessory. Aristide was born in France, in 2010, from the desire of refreshing leather gloves. From the very beginning of their business, their motto is “work it differently, give its nobility, make it a masterpiece” – so, all the features they gave to their gloves. The French label uses historical knowledge of gloves-making, and adds a contemporary vision inspired by art (from Magritte’s surreal paintings to Salvador Dali’s ironic elegance), architecture (Daniel Buren’s famous geometric spaces) and design (Ettore Sottsass and his fantastic, bold totems and chairs), respecting the legacy of tradition, while bringing originality and modernity by cuts and volumes. For the autumn-winter 2016 collection, Aristide prepared a graphic look-book of arty, nonchalant options with trompe-l’oeil red nails, humorous lips “biting” the fingers and neon-shaded lightnings – but there are also safer pieces, like the ones with attachable leather covers, or fur lining inside. In other words, the sad world of gloves is not that sad anymore!
