In Motion. Marc Jacobs Resort 2018

Slide2

For resort 2018, Marc Jacobs wanted to convey the feeling of movement, which is so vibrantly present in the designer’s latest obsession: Robert Longo’s drawings of dancing figures. In fact, those clothes won’t look as good on a rack – they were designed to be worn, with grace. The little black dress is pure chic, and Marc might want to consider going this  path of gorgeous dressses. Pencil skirts in pastel blue, lilac and pink are trimmed in plastic beads, making them ready for any night-out. To keep it downtown and Jacobs’ way, denim and slouchy knits were styled with more ‘event’ pieces.

Dance. Rachel Comey Resort’16

Dance! Use your body language! Resort 2016 by the New York-based favourite, Rachel Comey, is a blast. The looks were documented through a dance performance from the Robbins Child company – women who love dancing simply showed the clothes they wore through movement. While listening to various music on their headphones, the dancers looked more than refreshing in colours of curcuma, lemon and red chilli… Comey said that she’d been looking at shots from Kingston, Jamaica circa the 1970s as a way of exploring a loose “street style” theme, and though her homage was indirect, the collection’s  prints and colors made the reference clear. With a cool 70’s twist, these dresses are definitely the ones you want to try out at Saturday night dance-club.

Sophisticated. Barbara Casasola AW15

Bringing on the Latin American heat and temper, Barbara Casasola shows a sophisticated side of her aesthetics. Black turtlenecks styled with flared skirts and black ballerinas (or yellow, if you want to cheer it up). The pleating was the spotlight this season—a touch Miyake-esque, but Casasola put her own signature spin on that look. And her showpiece efforts featuring multicolored silk fringe simultaneously contrasted with the pleats theme and carried the collection’s symbolic weight. The fringe appeared as if they were doing a little dance in celebration.

Dance-Floor Boogie. Creatures of Comfort AW15

_A2X0226

You will never be a bore if you wear the dance-floor on yourself. The new collection by Creatures of Comfort was a mix of  elegance and boogie-boogie dance. Checked skirts worn with cashmere sweaters or rather black over-sized suits spiced up by a yellow necklace? The combinations seem to be endless! But all of it works together. One of the collection’s strongest looks was a silk blouse in a kitsch Hawaiian print, worn under a rust-colored blazer with notched lapels. Confusion? Definitely yes, but in good taste.
