Enjoy autumn while it lasts! It’s especially enchanting this year. Here’s a forest moment from Karlovy Vary, the fairy-tale-like Czech city I’ve been to last weekend. More on it coming soon!
Enjoy The Autumn
Ageing is beautiful, and Jun Takahashi of Undercover reminds the industry about that. “Making relaxwear for all ages” was the main concept behind this avant-garde outing, filled with printed pajamas, cocooning knitwear (the pastel blue cardigan striped coat had this lovely, spongy texture!) and layered outerwear. The models’ age range varied, and such silver-haired beauties as Hannelore Knuts appeared in the show, wearing a white crown of thorns – but not with a religious message, so no doubts. It was rather connected to the imaginary, ethereal queens of forests which also had dried hydrangeas in their hair. Another clue of the forest life inspiration? Gigantic, felt wool ants and bees carried like stoles by the Undercover women. Takahashi goes against the flow, and he has a talent of doing what he does best – not looking at other designers’ work.
The gold corset jacket with a voluminous, ballerina skirt… mesmerising.
Sometimes, it is so great to go for a short trip. To relax and breath with fresh, forest air. To see all that green and wildlife around you. If you are visiting Poland this summer, you must try out the Palace of Mierzecin, which is situated just in the centre of wilderness – rest and forget about the buzz of the big city.
Dries Van Noten possibly stole the day with his wonderful show yesterday. First of all, the 50m long carpet weaved three months in Argentina, which really looked and felt like moss. Then, the new mood, which feels like the quintessence of the next season- the 70’s and hippie style. We saw them like everywhere- Victoria Beckham, Prada, Derek Lam… but nobody really showed it in a real, original way. But the master of florals, Dries did. His summer woman loves nature, doesn’t care about rules, and mixes the prints the way she wants… showing some nudity. A splash of stripes, oriental embroideries, crotchet, fur, brocade, zig-zags and many more was the big thing. In other words, the hippie chic, where prints take the role, ruled.
Aah… and everything styled with sandals. The trousers were slouchy, the blazers were like whatever. The sheer beauty of Dries Van Noten’s Spring collection was inspired by John Everett Millais’ Ophelia, the Pre-Raphaelite image that launched a million hippie fantasies. In the painting, Ophelia floats dreamily in a magical woodland setting. And when the models had their final walk, everybody was totally relaxed- in a lazy way, the girls sat down on the “moss” having a nap. I think, we need to go to the forest, then. I am truely moved and in love. Thanks, Dries.
