Ladies and gentlemen, here is the first ever runway show of Miu Miu’s resort 2015! And I must say: it was lovely. As always, in case of Miu Miu. The collection was a 60’s print remix with Brady Bunch vibes and fluid-like chiffon scarves. The prints were very floral, kept in blue, green and red, while the embroideries looked very chic and girly. But what gave it all a cute spark was the hair, which was curly and looked perfect with all those baby-doll mini dresses. In other words, it was all about the Miu Miu pretty girl which smells peonies and strawberries (in my imagination)… Gorgeous, Miuccia!
Girl
Muse. Ellery Resort’15
The Sydney-based designer, Kym Ellery, does the most simple & sophisticated clothes at once. For her Resort 2015, she managed to make the clothes well fit for casual time and evening events! Ellery deployed her signature bell shapes with restraint, making a trumpet hem on cropped pants or fanning out the sleeves of a slinky boucle dress or cotton poplin shirt. Also, the spaghetti straps and V-cuts brought the collection a poetic attitude and mood. Ellery is for a long time one of my favourite Australian labels and I really enjoy it’s luxurious approach towards the modern evening-wear.
Slouchy. J.W. Anderson Resort’15
I am mesmerised. I truly love this Resort 2015 collection in case of Jonathan Anderson. It’s beautiful in it’s ugliness. Kept in calm colours of beige, grey and red, the collection reminded me of the typical British country land-scape, full of farms and valleys. There was something delicate about it too. The deconstructed shirts, origami maxi dresses and the chic black costume made of a shirt and over-sized trousers were my favourites. It somehow reminds of early Prada, at which Miuccia investigated uniforms and ugliness in fashion. This slouch way of styling, these imperfections… I am looking forward to see the continuation for this interesting idea in September, Jonathan!
Striking. Prabal Gurung Resort’15
Prabal Gurung said he approached his striking new Resort collection as if it was a “one-stop shop from morning to evening.” The idea, he explained, was prompted by all the traveling he’s been doing to trunk shows in places as far-flung as Singapore and Toronto. It’s smart business to listen to customers’ needs, but if Gurung embraced practicality, he didn’t abandon his creative side.
Miss America. Rag & Bone Resort’15
The new collection by Rag & Bone for Resort’15 was all about fine, labour clothing. Texture was key, in other words, as was the emphasis on looks that could transition from season to season. The signature piece may have been the waistband-free A-line shorts, done in leather or lightweight suiting fabric, which had the chillaxed air of skate shorts but didn’t ape that look exactly. The sweatshirts were worn slouchy on white cotton shirts, while over-sized leopard printed dresses were style with super cool white sneakers and socks. “Do you‘resort’?” Wainwright and partner David Neville are keenly attuned to their customer’s lifestyle, and they make it their business not to offer her fantasies but to elevate her reality.
