Just Gorgeous. Valentino SS19

VALENTINO

The first part of Pierpaolo Piccioli’s spring-summer 2019 offering at Valentino could be read as the designer’s departure from the magnificent, Italian glamour he channeled in the past few seasons. With Kristen McMenamy (scream) and Maria Carla Boscono on the runway, Piccioli sent down an all-black line-up of minimally cut dresses with balloon sleeves, ball skirts and loosely fit suits. It’s been a while since we’ve seen such an impressive use of black, especially for summer. Somehow, the effect was far from solemn. But, if you missed Pierpaolo’s recent fashion galore, here you are: somewhere in the middle of the collection, a colour explosion took place. Valentino red looked less dramatic, but more joyous. Matisse and Gaugin-inspired prints were used for mini-dresses that got as well trimmed with feathers. This season’s use of tulle (delightfully pleated) as well made Valentino’s ready-to-wear top the ranks for the evening occasions. One can’t forget the huge, straw hats that brought even more glory to the collection. Piccioli is growing stronger and stronger as the sole creative director at the house. It’s a pleasure to watch him do wonders.

Perry Ellis Era

The 90’s. Aah. The free spirit. And grunge. These are the keywords that really make me think about this amazing era of creativity, defiance and a kind of “I don’t give a F word” attitude. Perry Ellis from 1994 is the perfect example. It was the collection that got Marc Jacobs fired from this American fashion house, which is currently slowly dying and becoming a forgotten brand. It was the show, idea, that made his career. With Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love in the newspapers and their music dominating both the radio and MTV, a 29-year-old Jacobs sent flannel shirts, printed granny dresses, Dr. Martens and knitted beanies down the runway. “Grunge is ghastly,” Suzy Menkes declared later in her fashion show report, and Jacobs indeed lost his job, but this was one show that the critics and the Perry Ellis company definitely got wrong. In other words, to those who think Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent is innovative – as you, he is not.

Simbolismo Religioso in Fashion

Slide02

Very soon I am going to visit Florence, the magical capital city of beautiful Tuscany! As I am now in a Dolce Vita mood, so a bit inspired with Dolce & Gabbana that may not feel so sweet life for a moment, I thought of the religious symbolism in fashion- not of this season, but from 1960 year when Cristobal Balencaiga designed his bridal dress with nuns head dressing inspired hat to Les Novices where Brigitte Bardot stars as a newcoming female nun that just don’t real know what to do and sins a lot there and there… I thought of Sevillas Santa Semanas holiday and the splendor of Vatican church that I truly love! And if Church women would wear Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2013, then it would perfectly match at Brugges nunnery. Although it all sounds very good, Kate Moss at W Magazine showed herself as a satan or a witch with sharp claws and vampire teeth… this editorial is very spooky! Just as Kristen McMenamy at opening and closing the Giles AW13 show, wearing a super scary make-up and anglican inspired gowns. As I am not really a religious person, I hope this post won’t make anybody offended. Well, it’s fashion!
