There is no shock that Bad Gal RiRi arrived to the anticipated Balmain show today. Being a close friend of Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s creative director, Rihanna had her SS14 campaign for the house done a month ago by Inez & Vinoodh… So striking a pose in the finale outfit from the collection for the new photographs is also something unexpected. But to be true, she looks beautiful as always… And even sexier in that khaki jacket!
The collection for AW14 was a continuation of it’s Pre-Fall. In other words, that was all about safari chic, African vision situated in Paris and sexy, sleek clothes. The khaki coloured Safarinette jackets, jumpsuits, leopard prints, Alaia “flair” skirts… And then those vibrant colours of yellow, orange and red, reminding the beautiful Masai tribes. A lot of things was on Olivier’s moodboard, but surely one inspiration had it’s solid position- the Balmain jacket. In the new version for fall, it went zebras. And I definitely love it this way!
“We listened to it super loud, and she was dancing in the clothes—but she really owned them. She tweaked everything. She chose what she wanted to wear, she had a great vision, and that’s what I love about her,” Olivier Rousteing said for Style.com during the shoot with the new Balmain face- Rihanna! The SS14 campaign is chic, crazy, fun and cool- just like Balmain under Rousteing’s wings! But Rousteing, who spoke to Style.com from Paris this morning, insists the ads weren’t the result of a PR push or a marketing strategy—rather, they were the product of he and Riri’s budding friendship. “I met her six months ago, when she came to the studio during her Diamonds Tour, and I just loved her,” the designer recalls. “She invited me to her concert, and I invited her to my show, and she started to become a good friend of mine. Obviously, we text all the time, and at one point, when I was working on the Spring collection, I told her she was the inspiration and that I wanted her in the campaign. It all started like that.” What do you think about this fresh campaign? For me- it’s great!
Peter Dundas said backstage the Emilio Pucci SS14 show that he was strongly inspired with the hottest musicians of the moment- he lately dressed for scene and day Rita Ora, Rihanna and Beyonce, that are all known for wearing dresses with sexy cuts, coloyrful prints and of course… a nice price tag. But this is not it. Peter Dundas simply copied Balmain and Tom Ford into his collection! Just look- the shiny jackets, printed parkas, luxury sportwear with sequins, super high heels, gowns with silver sleeves… These are just few things that are taken from Oliver Rousteing and Ford’s mind. And that’s pretty rude in fashion world. But… the collection was quite cool. The best thing were these rock ‘n roll hair styles on models and the closing by Malgosia Bela!
