When two years ago I was in New York, I had a chance to visit Jill Platner store on 113 Crosby Street in SoHO. However, I didn’t really get interested in it, but thanks god, I took one of their beautiful postcards… and guess what, I found it today during the summer cleaning! I checked their site, their store and I am so fascinated in it right now! For over 20 years, Jill Platner has created jewelry and sculpture from different metals like gold or silver. In 1998 she opened a shop on SoHo’s Crosby Street. The space has not only served as a retail outlet for her jewelry, but a gallery for her sculpture as well. At the center of Jill’s work is a fluid sense of movement, inspired by both organic and urban forms like feathers or tree branches. Jewelry designs are conceived with an innate sense of how they will look and feel on the body. Hinged pieces drape like fabric, and hammered metals beg to be picked up and felt. Every piece has a unique physical presence and tactile quality. A simple elegance underscores everything Jill does. And the monumental sculptures which hang from the ceilings remind me of over-sized fish bone sculptures or something alike… in other words, while being in New York the next time, you must check out this beautiful store and Platner’s style!

Black Says Don’t Bother Me

I know it’s a bit out of date since Christmas fun ends today, but… Still, the Christmas feeling is not appearing to go away. The Alexander Wang’s New York flagship store in SoHO just got a Festive Season makeover. No wonder in what colour- black. Black only. The colour that is best friend of Wang. Decorated with black Christmas trees and teddy bears, the boutique looks as always raw and cold, but… Special. By this occasion, I also had a peek at the Resort 2014 collection of Alexander’s line, and just noticed how great it is for New Year Eve! Of course, it’s great for people who prefer black & white elegance than fussy-flossy sequins. Simple, sexy white dresses and black masculine suits are seen in the collection, while the shoes look comfortable and pretty cool. Worn with some silver jewellery and leather hand-bags, the outfits seem to be very occasional, but at the same time good for other events in the upcoming year…. Will you choose black for your New Year Eve galore?

Girl From Loft. Band of Outsiders AW13

This is a story about a girl, whose living on Greene Street in SoHO, New York, where actually is the fashion week. She lives in a old but kind of youth spirited loft on the second floor. Her apartament is like about 65 m2. She likes to party hard at night, in day she is cool but a bit “strange”… She has lots of friends and enemies- but still she is amazing. I would call her a bit psycho but amzing. Wears a school girl velvet dress with white collar and tomboy shoes… The name of this story is Band of Outsiders AW 2014! The collection was great! Loved the knitted hats and all the dresses that were like school girls but with some punk in. Additionally, they were worn with black long gloves and flat shoes in white and black colour. And the plum colour leather skirts with some dot shirt was also a great composition. But the most impressing was last look- the velvet blue maxi dress with pink and violet embelished sequins- that was such a great ending! Hope to see more collections like this one by this label!
Day 8: Guggenheim Museum, Madison, Soho and TriBeCa
That was a lovely day in New York. I went to the beautiful Guggenheim museum, that was great! I loved the most all the modern artists and Claude Monet. For lunch we chose The Mark’s Hotel restaurant. I have ordered crispy sushi and… A hamburger with truffle dressing! On Madison Avenue we went to a gorgeous boutique of Bond No.9 Perfumes. I found even perfumes with Andy Warhol!

Then, we had our last walk on Soho… That was beautiful. We looked at all those artistic jewellery, people that wore cool clothes and looked at those beautiful house… For dinner we went to TriBeCa, an new to us region. The restaurant that we chose was the Nobu. The sushi there was awesome. We ordered an tempura lobster, nigiri of sawara, bluefin tuna, snow crab, then usual shrimp tempura, the bestseller of Nobu, the Black Cod Miso, and sashimi tacos from tuna, crab and lobster!!! Everything was gorgeous. The same as New York.
Day 5: Metropolitan Museum of Art and Soho
That was a really exhausting and long day! We were already on nine o’clock in the morning in Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the biggest museum in the world. After reaching the main hall, we knew we will not go out of this place too fast. First, we went to the medieval arts, then European Sculpture and Decoration. I really loved all those beautiful porcelain vases and bowls ! They were so adoring! So detailed! Next was the Robert Lehman Collection of paintings, furnitures and sculpture. Most of paintings were by El Greco, Rembrandt and Botticelli. The best of all were Arts of Africa, Australia and Americas. My favourites- Mayans golds, Navajo clothes and Papua’s decoration. Modern and Contemporary Art was really great- Picasso, Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Anish Kapoor, Edward Hopper, Joan Miro and Elisworth Kelly did a real sensation! But the key exhibition was the Prada and Schiaparelli: Impossible Conversations. The main fashion categories were Hard, Ugly, Naif, The Classical Body, Exotic Body and Surreal Body Chics. The exhibition was to show the dialog between two Italian designers. The Conversation considers the striking affinities between these two iconic designers from different eras: Schiaparelli who worked in Paris from 1920 until her house closed in 1954, and Prada who took over her family Milan based business in 1978. The collection shows us also, how art is important in fashion and everyday life. We were also upstairs, but I don’t want you to be bored. So lets look at the pictures: (unfortunately, most photos are from the phone, and the best ones are on my camera. When I will be back at home I promise I will send on the blog much more!)

Andy Warhol, Van Gogh, Brooklyn Bridge from the taxi boat and Yayoi Kusama decorations
After lunch in museum we hurried on a taxi boat, to see all the most important bridges like Brooklyn. Awesome! It was a lot of fun. We saw whole Manhattan’s and New Jersey coasts. When we were walking out from the boat we found a tiny park where were standing… Yayoi Kusama benches! That temporary pieces of art, were standing there because of the Kusama exhibition in Whitney Museum. For the dinner we went to Balthazar on Spring Street on Soho. That was really poor. The homemade linguine were okay, red snaper (fish) was also okay but the some of the oysters were… Anorectic!!! That should have been the most fashionable restaurant in the city, but it was too loud and we felt like we were in the cheapest bistro in Paris. But the day was great.
