“Fifty-five looks for fifty-five operas. The Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were after something new for Couture this season, and they found it in the age-old tradition of opera. The show opened with a nod to La Traviata; Giuseppe Verdi’s score was embroidered in black on the long, full skirt of a parchment-colored tulle dress. By the end, they had called out all the greats: Puccini’s La Bohème inspired an elegant navy cashmere cape and silk crepe sheath. Bizet’sCarmen produced a pleated bronze tulle gown with silver-gray guipure lace embroideries”. And I loved the animals. Magnifique!

Valentino
Men’s: Ethno. Valentino AW14
The introduction of this men’s couture only further ratchets up the degree of luxury Piccioli and Chiuri have made it their business to sell. But the twist at their Valentino is that with each new turn of the gilded screw, the look of luxe gets less and less. The collection has never looked looser. Suits have mostly melted into pajamas; trousers into jeans; shirt-and-tie into sweatshirt-and-scarf. Perfect for Alpes Resort vacations and… casual daywear!

Beautiful. Valentino Pre-Fall’14
Seriously, this collection is perfect. Valentino outdid itself this season, creating a beautiful, cute collection for pre-fall’14. Filled with butterfly prints, orange shirling, lace gowns, feather details and forest animal theme, this is the ideal look-book for every occasion. Ornamental bags worn with simple boots, appliqued dresses toned by simple, sharp coats. My favourites are the column dress in olive and green, transparent gown with feather embroideries around the collar- this is a fairy-tale of beautiful clothing.
