Murder, She Wrote. Thom Bronwe AW15

1109714

If talking of good drama, Thom Browne knows how to amuse the viewer. For AW15 venue, the enfant terrible of New York’s fashion scene presented his extraordinary show in Victoria era seminary, where “doctors” gave life to the patients. Also, the guests had a chance to be present on the funeral of a mafioso – every model was dressed head to toe in black, with veils on their faces. And, no, he said, he did not see the new all-black exhibition at the Met, where his partner, Andrew Bolton, is a curator; he purposely avoided it, so as not to be overly influenced. The sadness brought by Thom Browne in black colour was meaningful – opposite to Alexander Wang’s recent retail-friendly collection, the darkness felt emotional, beautiful and ironic at the same time. Each outfit offered something for the eye – a  swingy jacket edged in thick beaver fur worn over a tweed mini and cardigan; an overcoat of black wool bouclé edged all around with frayed silk; warm and sublime wool dresses; coats horsehair fringe, and a jacket in a wool woven to resemble astrakhan and then embroidered with tiny black beads and deep green feathers. The veils were impressive, too – they all told a story.

Thom Browne’s AW15 was a totally different experience than his SS15 – the season before, full of green and flowers, brought cheer. AW15 is utterly different – it’s dull and gloomy. But both of them are ultra-couture if talking of craftsmanship and represent fashion as art. Thom Browne owns that.

Zigzags and Ibiza. The Elder Statesman AW15

The-Elder-Statesman-02-1366

Once you’ve got a knit from The Elder Statesman, you don’t need any other in your life. The quality offered by Greg Chait’s label from America is out of this world. His apparel clothes are simple, yes, but they have this characteristic attitude. This fall, The Elder Statesman takes his women and men to Ibiza and Morocco, where the colour palette is warm, while the clothes worn are always practical, but bold in texture. Ponchos, knitted bermuda shorts, maxi dresses and cashmere t-shirts are all must-haves, if you ask me. As I wrote before in MANY other posts, I am obsessed with this label.

Classy, Chic, Love. Altuzarra AW15

11011015_630995970339056_6068992953898339866_n

Although you might assume I didn’t like Altuzarra’s collection by looking at the picture above, you’re mistaken. The shoes on the left are the original Altuzarra lace boots that walked the runway two days ago; while the ones on the right are the super kitsch shoes from faszynfromraszyn.pl, where I sometimes compare fashion trends… but back to the collection – the shoes are the only thing that felt bad in the entire collection. Rest? Best collection by Joseph Altuzarra up to date of his career. It perfectly highlights his biggest signatures – femme fatale mood, feminine silhouettes, chic must-have clothes. With a dose of appealing masculinity for AW15 (tweed!), Altuzarra mixed tailored trousers with collared sheer shirts fox-fur jackets. Fur is a big thing in the collection, too – the super fluffy jackets look like clouds elevated around the models! Anna Ewers look (the pink one, you are going to spot it easily) wins everything.

A major thing for Altuzarra are the bags – with a Woodstock festival attitude, the fringed leather bags definitely will be everywhere – possibly, a significant and iconic bag from America is going to conquer the world? Gucci, take notes. Hah, even the sex-appeal of the clothes slightly remind that Tom-Ford-at-Gucci look… definitely not the gender-fuse one which is boosted by Alessandro Michele at the moment. Coming back to Joseph – now, he’s earning the higher level in the international fashion. Delightful.

Minimal Bouquet. Adam Lippes AW15

Adam-Lippes-01-1366

Florals? For spring? Ground-breaking. But effective. And not for spring, in reality, but for winter. Adam Lippes, the master of modern sportswear from New York bloomed this season. Known for minimal silhouettes, Adam had a dose of printed flowers there and there – on the jackets and dresses, for example. But what seriously makes me excited for this collection are the sweaters, which are made from 10 different gauges of wool! That’s a lot. And the effect is as impressive as the numbers – this knitted piece of art seems to be so soft and fluffy that you just want to wear it and hug people around… what else caught my eye? The mink fur coat. Styled with those masculine trousers, this piece of clothing seems to be timeless and never out of fashion. You might think that the collection works totally on fashion basics – but in overall effect, it has much to say this winter.

70’s Bohemia. Creatures of The Wind AW15

_MON0020

One of our main influences was looking at the 20s through a 70s lens,” said one of the designers at Creatures of The Wind, Shane Gabier. The palette was rich with opulent Art Deco hues – especially the gold olive, which Gabier said “has reappeared in different decades, different places and in different subcultures.” The all-American collection (the stoles had free-life stars on them) had lots of metaphors having something to do with the country’s history – pilgrims, farmers, New York flea markets and even, the Steve Jobs turtlenecks. And all of that, mixed in a cool bohemia like mash-up. I love the use of fur and prints – the frivole skirt with monochrome checks is amazing, isn’t it? Just like the shoes, which really get hot, keeping in the mind that the brand starts its strong expansion.
