Cuteness Alert! Loewe x My Neighbor Totoro

Cuteness alert! It may only be the start of 2021, and here we are with one of the most charming collaborations ever.  Loewe has revealed that it will be dropping a capsule collection with none other than the iconic Japanese animation film company, Studio Ghibli. The Loewe x My Neighbor Totoro capsule collection sees the animated fantasy film come to life as its iconic characters and landscapes appear on limited-edition ready-to-wear pieces, leather products and accessories. Though released in 1988, My Neighbor Totoro remains a cultural landmark beloved by not only film enthusiasts but also children and adults alike. The capsule collection seeks to celebrate the feel-good story’s beloved characters through a mutual love of craft and artisanal techniques shared by Loewe and Studio Ghibli. Comfort is at the heart of the collection, so expect relaxed shapes and a vibrant colour palette with hints of chrome and Loewe’s iconic tan. The ready-to-wear pieces include T-shirts printed with both Totoro and Loewe’s logo, hooded sweatshirts with The Camphor tree (where Totoro is often found napping) as well as handbags and small leather goods with even more whimsical motifs.

The collection is out today! Here are some of my favourite pieces:

Men’s: Raf Simons X Stan Smith

raf-simons-for-adidas-stan-smith-stripes-straps-4-960x640As we all know, Raf Simons is the master of collaboration- take the AW14 collab with Ruby Sterling or Eastpack backpacks. And this time, it’s all about the extremely cool Stan Smith sneakers by Adidas- Raf Simons revisted them with a colourful blast- a wide stripe goes through the shoe laces to the sole. And these cosmic buttons… Not forgetting that it’s all leather. And of course, very Stan Smith. The sole is simple, with Adidas logo- and big Raf Simons is written on the tongue. Now, I am really confused- should I be mad about these or Riccardo Tisci’s Nike? That’s a real dilema…

Acne X Hilma Af Klint

Acne Studios interprets the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint, a once forgotten artist who then became recognised as one of the pioneers within abstract art. Based on af Klint’s original paintings from the early 20th century, a collection has evolved.
Inspired by the new spirituality of the late 19th century, and with an interest in the esoteric and occult, Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) created a complex collection of artwork. She wanted to visualize a higher union between the opposites of the polarized world, such as male and female, light and darkness, striving for reconciliation of contradictions, for unity and totality. Af Klint thought that her art was meant for humanity in the future and stipulated that it should not be shown until 20 years after her death. But it even took a few more decades before her extensive body of work was discovered by the art world. In early 2013, the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm, unveiled the largest af Klint exhibition to date and ”Hilma af Klint: A Pioneer of Abstraction” was published.
