Pleasingly, Haider Ackermann didn’t dissapoint us with his recent men collection. The male boheme continues and for good! Knowing well Andalusian-gypsy style Haider gives us each season in his presentation, the SS15 is just the cherry on the top of a cake. A rich yet dusty, jewel-hued color palette of pieces layered together in a nonchalant way that must have taken hours to get just right. All the velvet varsity jackets, jacquard drop crotch pants, fitted vests over loose shirting, chinoiserie silk dressing gown coats, and long looping scarves closely echoed the personal style of the designer himself. Although, the easy inclusion of Saskia de Brauw and Liya Kebede into the mix of male models proved that the pieces had real cross over potential.
Cool
Pop It! Moschino Resort’15
I am worried. Jeremy Scott is cool and popped-up but I am scared that more than 10 different ideas in on RESORT collection is too much. Reminding his first Moschino AW14 show that was really all about McDonalds, now we may choose from Pepsi logo dresses to bandana bras and cute cupcake jackets. I pretty much like the collection (“Shirt happens!” is my favourite outfit…) but if Jeremy won’t slow down the tempo, he might get out of ideas. Although it’s guaranteed that everybody is going to wear one of these fun t-shirts or sexy MOSCHINO underwear. Plus, thumbs up for Charlotte Free as a model!
Striking. Prabal Gurung Resort’15
Prabal Gurung said he approached his striking new Resort collection as if it was a “one-stop shop from morning to evening.” The idea, he explained, was prompted by all the traveling he’s been doing to trunk shows in places as far-flung as Singapore and Toronto. It’s smart business to listen to customers’ needs, but if Gurung embraced practicality, he didn’t abandon his creative side.
Miss America. Rag & Bone Resort’15
The new collection by Rag & Bone for Resort’15 was all about fine, labour clothing. Texture was key, in other words, as was the emphasis on looks that could transition from season to season. The signature piece may have been the waistband-free A-line shorts, done in leather or lightweight suiting fabric, which had the chillaxed air of skate shorts but didn’t ape that look exactly. The sweatshirts were worn slouchy on white cotton shirts, while over-sized leopard printed dresses were style with super cool white sneakers and socks. “Do you‘resort’?” Wainwright and partner David Neville are keenly attuned to their customer’s lifestyle, and they make it their business not to offer her fantasies but to elevate her reality.
