Berlin: Gallery Weekend 2015

IMG_2744

This year’s Gallery Weekend in Berlin was awesome. The people present during the event, the beautiful moments and of course the artworks shown to the public felt fresh and absolutely creative. I discovered a lot of new artists, but two of them were definitely the highlights for me – Hans Aichinger and Philipp Fürhofer. Aichinger’s works are characterised by the sophisticated lighting and his precisely painted figures that are emphasised by the minimal backround. Fürhofer art is totally different, though – his installations suggest the artist implements a range of techniques by working layers of impasto over transparent materials. At times they appear as three-dimensional objects brightened up with light, while at other times they are absorbed into the surrounding space, blurring the reality with imagination. Also, while visiting the whole event, I visited my favourite store, Andreas Murkudis and a pop-up store of vintage furniture which had a great variety of rugs from Nepal.

Here is my photo-recap from this über-Berliner trip.

Ciekocinko Palace

Let the Easter retreat begin! And what’s better than a country escape? This time, I chose Ciekocinko Palace, which is located in the Northern part of Poland. It took ten years for the owner to make it alive and beautiful again – wallpapers come straightly from San Francisco, the chimney are original remains of the 20’s while all of the furniture come from prestigious British auction houses. The hotel contains two amazing restaurants, which use local products and ingredients. I tell you, it’s so good – my favourite breakfast dish is the Kashubiam speciality: apple pancakes with natural sour cream. For dinner, I am a slay to the delicious tatar. If you ever come to Poland, visit this place – you will truly feel like a king (or queen) of a palace.

Don’t Leave Me Now. Loewe AW15

003-loewe

Jonathan Anderson’s second women ready-to-wear collection for Loewe is a fresh look at a traveler’s wardrobe – tweed pants, comfy over-sized jackets, warm cashmere turtlenecks and easy dresses are just few of the new basics Anderson offers for the luxe voyagers. And just to heat it up, the British designer mixed bold, colourful accents with seriously good accessories – the Puzzle bag in blue or emerald suede is everything .”Like Spanish women,” he added. “They know who they are, they know how to have fun.” The Loewe woman for fall thinks about flirting, too – the huge sunglasses said it all. The azure pleated skirts drifted through the air in a very romantic way. Although the collection reminds me of J.W. Anderson’s London presentation, it still leaves a positive feeling.

Kisses From India. Stella Jean AW15

_A2X0005

Hello Milano! And hello beautiful, sunny Stella Jean which sends us kisses straight from India! At the beginning of February, I went to Milan to preview Stella’s AW15 – the embroidery, the prints, the colour combinations are just genius. And what’s interesting, thanks to mixing classical, Italian heritage to the Bollywood-inspired theme, the AW15 collection is not so… kitsch? There’s nothing to add or to subtract. Basically, the collection has a healthy amount of wearable pieces decorated with rather silent ornaments. The coats are gorgeous; the dresses are breath-taking. And these tweed voluminous skirts look so great with these ethno-patterned knits! We definitely need the warmth and cheer that Jean brings to fashion world every season.
