Bologna – Not Just Bolognese

IMG_E4211

Before, when I heard about Bologna, I instantly thought about food. Maybe because Bologna’s cuisine is said to be the best in the entire Europe – and not just because of the Bolognese sauce (by the way, the locals don’t use that name – they call it simply ‘pasta with ragu’). But visiting Bologna made me realise how beautiful this city is, not just from the taste buds’ aspect. The old city centre is filled with remains of its medieval history: countless towers, palaces, churches and brick facades. The San Petronio Church is especially stunning, with its marble floors and neck-breaking ceiling heights. Make sure to visit Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio, contructed back in 1563. There, you will find the all-wooden Teatro Anatomico, so the place where the human corpses were dissected in front of the medical students for educational matters the first time in history (note that Bologna is the city of some of the oldest universities in the world). In the same building, there’s the mind-blowing library, mostly closed for the tourists. But still, the view of it from behind the see-through doors is quite something. Also, we went to Pinacoteca Nazionale, the ‘richest’ museum in Bologna – but it was quite a disappointment. It served as a good starting point for the long walk back to the centre. When you’re in Bologna, take your time to ‘get lost’ in the streets of this magnificent, red city – or else you won’t really feel it

I will post my favourite addresses in Bologna soon!

Tuscany: Carrara

Carrara is the city of marble in Tuscany, where biggest amounts of marble are found and used from the local mountains. It sounds kind of normally, but in reality and landscape around looks destroyed and devastated- the mountains are simply peeled off! For sure there is no ecology in that… But the city looks fantastic. It is very old, but you shall find modern marble sculptures everywhere, that looks cool. And there is also this church made all out of marble… It all makes me think of Balenciaga by Alexander Wang AW13 collection inspired with marble form!

Simbolismo Religioso in Fashion

Slide02

Very soon I am going to visit Florence, the magical capital city of beautiful Tuscany! As I am now in a Dolce Vita mood, so a bit inspired with Dolce & Gabbana that may not feel so sweet life for a moment, I thought of the religious symbolism in fashion- not of this season, but from 1960 year when Cristobal Balencaiga designed his bridal dress with nuns head dressing inspired hat to Les Novices where Brigitte Bardot stars as a newcoming female nun that just don’t real know what to do and sins a lot there and there… I thought of Sevillas Santa Semanas holiday and the splendor of Vatican church that I truly love! And if Church women would wear Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2013, then it would perfectly match at Brugges nunnery. Although it all sounds very good, Kate Moss at W Magazine showed herself as a satan or a witch with sharp claws and vampire teeth… this editorial is very spooky! Just as Kristen McMenamy at opening and closing the Giles AW13 show, wearing a super scary make-up and anglican inspired gowns. As I am not really a religious person, I hope this post won’t make anybody offended. Well, it’s fashion!

Rome’s Sky

20130420-034504 PM.jpg
My favourite thing about Rome are all the cathedrals and churches. And their beautiful interiors! The Byzantine wall ornaments showing the bible, Michael Angelo paintings, and the richness of Roman culture. It always make feel so fresh… My favourite place in Rome is the Church of Maria Traverse that has a beautiful wall on the top… And Vatican’s treasures are mind blowing…

Church Anglicans. McQueen AW13

20130306-025826 PM.jpg
There were only ten looks from whole collection that can be forgived because Sara Burton has new twins! Congratulations! And why forgive? Because the collection was so beautiful and really haute couture, and I would love it longer. It was a continuation of Pre-Fall collection that was full of church inspirations. This time Burton divided the ten into five subgroups: Communion, nuns, cardinals, popes, and angels. In a scarcely believable but timely twist for McQueen, Britain’s most senior Catholic cardinal has just stepped down in the wake of one of those sex scandals that endlessly plague the Vatican in the twilight of its domain.
The dresses were so amazing! Lots of embroidery, silk, pearls, gold, ornaments… Ah, so baroque and opulent! It was luxurious but not RTW! That’s for sure. But I love it so much. And the interior of runway? An old palace with lots of decorations and rich lamps!
