Belgium: A.F. Vandevorst

A.F. Vandevorst is a brand I knew before, but I have never been too interested in it. Until I visited Belgium. First of all, you need to know these two simple equation: A.F. = Filip Arickx, while Vandevorst = Ann Vandevorst. And these two are quiet, cool couple, which created a Belgian, red-crossed brand which may be easily spotted thanks to it’s characteristics. Over the years, the duo’s influences have ranged from S&M-tinged clinical uniforms (such as the SS 2007 nun habits, SS 2008 PVC trenchcoats, FW 2014 army cargo, and their signature red cross logo) to German artists such as Joseph Beuys and choreographer Pina Bausch, and a week spent with the Samburu tribe in Kenya (SS 2012). Looking at their archives, I am impressed- the brand is so sophisticated and interesting. But it always keeps it’s specific, dark-romance style.

Miss America. Rag & Bone Resort’15

The new collection by Rag & Bone for Resort’15 was all about fine, labour clothing. Texture was key, in other words, as was the emphasis on looks that could transition from season to season. The signature piece may have been the waistband-free A-line shorts, done in leather or lightweight suiting fabric, which had the chillaxed air of skate shorts but didn’t ape that look exactly. The sweatshirts were worn slouchy on white cotton shirts, while over-sized leopard printed dresses were style with super cool white sneakers and socks. “Do you‘resort’?” Wainwright and partner David Neville are keenly attuned to their customer’s lifestyle, and they make it their business not to offer her fantasies but to elevate her reality.

Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin are interested in women. Their New York based label is all about simplicity of clothing and confident, cosmopolitan, polished yet unfussy in their sense style. Their Resort 2015 collection was just it! The models looked gorgeous in every dress and every skirt. The prints were calm but eye catchy. And the colours were perfect for Spring in New York… I see everything here worn at a Central Park stroll. Although it’s all very mature, these clothes are going to look really good on a 20 and up! Aloha From Deer is the coolest Polish brand ever- it produces awesome 3-D printed sweatshirts made out if cotton. Their pieces like shirt, t-shirts, sweatpants and varsity jackets are kept in very affordable prices and they might be just the clothes you want to wear this Summer! As the label expands, they have just opened a new pop-up store in Stary Browar, the hottest place in Poznan, Poland.
